PM Modi Honoured with Indonesia's Highest Civilian Award, Unveils New Strategic Partnership
India and Indonesia deepen defence, trade and technology ties as Prime Minister Narendra Modi receives the prestigious Bintang Adipurna honour during his Jakarta visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Indonesia's highest civilian honour, the Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia, during his official visit to Jakarta, where India and Indonesia announced a series of landmark agreements aimed at strengthening their strategic partnership.
Following talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, the two countries signed nearly a dozen agreements covering defence, critical minerals, technology, maritime security, healthcare, education and food security. Indonesia also decided to procure India's BrahMos and Astra missile systems, while both nations agreed to deepen cooperation in maritime security and strengthen critical mineral supply chains.
Addressing the Indian diaspora, Modi said India is progressing with the mantra of "Reform, Perform and Transform," describing the country's self-reliance as a force that benefits not only India but the entire ASEAN region. He encouraged the Indian community to promote India among their Indonesian friends and invite them to visit.
The Prime Minister also announced that IIM Bangalore will establish its first campus in Indonesia, aimed at benefiting students across Southeast Asia. Additionally, India will assist in the conservation and restoration of the UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, highlighting the shared cultural heritage between the two countries.
Speaking at the Indonesian Parliament, Modi said India follows the path of development rather than expansionism and reaffirmed New Delhi's commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. He also reiterated India's support for a two-state solution to the Palestine issue through dialogue and diplomacy.
Calling the honour a tribute to the people of India, Modi said it reflects the deep-rooted friendship and centuries-old civilisational ties between India and Indonesia.
