Washington Protest Highlights Humanitarian Concerns in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir

Washington, DC: Members of the Jammu Kashmir community from Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia organized a protest in the U.S. capital, urging the United States government and the international community to address the humanitarian situation in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

According to the organizers, residents of the region have been facing long-standing challenges, including limited employment opportunities, shortages of food and essential utilities, and inadequate political representation. They also alleged that Pakistan's security forces have responded to recent peaceful demonstrations with the use of lethal force while restricting access to food supplies, essential services, and other basic necessities, creating what they described as a humanitarian emergency.

The protesters expressed concern over the condition of women, children, and elderly residents, claiming they are living under constant fear due to alleged threats to their safety, hunger, and ongoing human rights violations.

Around 100 U.S. residents with ties to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, including women, children, and community leaders, participated in the demonstration. Holding placards and raising slogans, they called on democratic nations and international human rights organizations to take immediate action to protect civilians and help address the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the region.

The demonstration highlighted growing concern among members of the Kashmiri diaspora, who urged global leaders to closely monitor developments in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and ensure that the rights and welfare of civilians remain a priority.
