3 Dead After Two 100-Tonne Cranes Collapse at NHAI Site in Faridabad
Strong winds and heavy rain reportedly caused the massive cranes to lose control, crushing a cabin and killing three workers at the construction site.
A tragic accident at a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) construction site in Faridabad claimed the lives of three workers after two 100-tonne gantry cranes collapsed during severe weather conditions.
The incident occurred near Panhera Khurd at the casting yard of an elevated road project connecting Faridabad to Greater Noida. According to preliminary reports, sudden strong winds and rainfall caused the cranes to roll uncontrollably on their tracks after allegedly losing brake control.
Officials said work had been temporarily halted due to bad weather, and several workers had taken shelter inside an iron container cabin. While one crane narrowly missed the structure, the second crane crashed directly into it, crushing the cabin and killing three workers, including a civil engineer, on the spot. One worker also sustained injuries.
The project, being developed under NHAI, has raised serious concerns over construction safety protocols during adverse weather conditions. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while NHAI has reportedly formed a panel to determine whether the tragedy was caused solely by extreme weather or possible safety lapses.
