PM Modi to Chair Key NITI Aayog Meeting on Education Reforms Amid Paper Leak Concerns
Human resource development, school education reforms, and economic liberalisation to dominate discussions as concerns over repeated paper leaks continue nationwide.
At a time when repeated incidents of examination paper leaks across the country have intensified the debate over India’s education system, an important meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to deliberate on several key issues concerning the sector.
The meeting, scheduled for June 11, 2026, will take place under the Governing Council of NITI Aayog. The agenda is expected to focus on developing the human resources required to achieve the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047. Discussions are likely to cover early childhood education, reforms in secondary education, and policies aimed at strengthening extracurricular activities among children, including sports, cultural engagement, and leadership development.
The meeting will also focus on ways to liberalise state-level regulations and administrative systems to accelerate economic growth. Chief Ministers of all states and Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories are expected to participate.
According to sources, while paper leaks are not officially listed on the agenda, the issue may still be raised by several Chief Ministers due to growing public concern over repeated examination-related controversies.
States had already been informed that key education-related subjects would be discussed, which may encourage leaders to present recommendations regarding the present education system and possible reforms.
The meeting is expected to place strong emphasis on aligning the country’s education framework with the goals of a developed India while ensuring better coordination between the Centre and states in implementing reforms.
Political observers believe newly appointed leaders of Congress-ruled states, including Kerala and Karnataka, could attempt to corner the Centre over the issue of paper leaks.
Following assembly elections in five states, the meeting may also mark the first participation of new Chief Ministers, including West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.
Sources also suggest that the significance of this meeting should be viewed in the context of Prime Minister Modi’s separate meetings held in May 2026 with Union Cabinet ministers and state Chief Secretaries.
During those meetings, PM Modi reportedly stressed reforms to tackle challenges arising from the West Asia crisis and prioritised removing barriers to ease of doing business at the state level to achieve the vision of a developed India.
