“Thief Brother, Please Return Our Motors or Share Your QR Code”: Punjab Villagers’ Unusual Plea After Massive Theft
After 25 irrigation motors were stolen overnight in Punjab’s Faridkot, frustrated farmers made an unusual appeal to thieves—asking them to stop stealing and share a QR code instead for money.
In an unusual incident from Punjab’s Faridkot district, villagers of Pakkhi Kalan have made a desperate and unconventional appeal to thieves after 25 irrigation motors were stolen from farms in a single night.
The theft has left farmers distressed during the crucial paddy sowing season, as irrigation motors are essential for watering crops. According to villagers, the expensive motors are often stolen and later sold at scrap prices, causing major financial losses to already struggling farmers.
Frustrated by repeated thefts and what they describe as inadequate police action, villagers put up posters appealing directly to the thieves. The message humorously yet painfully requested the culprits to stop stealing and instead place a QR code somewhere in the village so residents could collectively transfer money to them.
“We are suffering heavy losses because of these repeated thefts. If you need money, just put up a QR code in the village and we will contribute, but please don’t steal our motors,” farmers reportedly said.
Farmer Simranjit Singh Brar revealed that organized gangs of 10 to 12 armed members are allegedly active in the area, making it dangerous for farmers and laborers to guard fields at night. Earlier, villagers used to stay in motor rooms for protection, but fear of armed criminals has changed the situation.
Meanwhile, local police officials stated that investigations are underway. Two suspects involved in motor thefts have reportedly been detained, and authorities are trying to determine their involvement in the recent large-scale theft.
