Former West Bengal Chief Minister accuses police of intimidating TMC leaders, says “We will fight or die”
Despite reportedly not receiving permission from Kolkata Police to hold a demonstration, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee arrived at the protest site and staged a sit-in on Wednesday, intensifying political tensions in West Bengal.
Addressing supporters during the protest, Banerjee alleged that police in the state were threatening TMC leaders. She claimed that during her tenure as Chief Minister, she stood by people irrespective of whether their political ideology aligned with her party.
“Police in Bengal are threatening TMC leaders. During my tenure, I stood with everyone, even if their ideology did not match that of my party,” Banerjee said while addressing the gathering.
Taking a strong political stand against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Banerjee issued what she described as a final challenge, declaring, “We will fight or die.”
The protest comes amid heightened political friction in the state, with the TMC leadership continuing to target opposition parties and law enforcement authorities over alleged political pressure and administrative actions.
