Public Participation Key to Success of Electoral Roll Revision Drive: Haryana CEO

Gurugram, June 19: Haryana Chief Electoral Officer A. Srinivas on Friday reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 campaign in Gurugram and emphasized that an accurate and updated electoral roll is essential for a strong democracy. He directed officials to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the voter registration process or denied the opportunity to update their electoral details.

During the review meeting, officials informed the CEO that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door visits across all four Assembly constituencies of the district, distributing enumeration forms and collecting voter-related information directly from residents.

Recognizing the challenges of reaching working families in an urban district like Gurugram, Srinivas instructed BLOs to intensify their outreach during weekends when more residents are likely to be available at home. He also stressed the need to involve Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), ward councillors, elected representatives, and social organizations to ensure greater public participation in the campaign.

The meeting also reviewed helpline services, voter awareness initiatives, polling station rationalization, and voter mapping activities. Srinivas said transparency, accuracy, and citizen participation are the cornerstones of the electoral process and called upon all officials to carry out their responsibilities with dedication.

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Uttam Singh stated that the Special Intensive Revision campaign is being implemented actively across the district. He said BLOs and election officials are continuously working in the field, while helplines and assistance centres have been established to support citizens. The district administration, he added, is committed to ensuring that every eligible voter gets an opportunity to be included in the electoral roll.

CEO Reviews Ground-Level Implementation of SIR Campaign

As part of the review, Chief Electoral Officer A. Srinivas visited GMD Garden Society in the Badshahpur Assembly constituency to assess the on-ground implementation of the SIR-2026 campaign.

During the visit, he inspected the door-to-door verification work being carried out by BLOs and interacted with them to understand the process of form distribution, voter outreach, document verification, and data collection. He also sought feedback on the challenges faced during field operations and discussed possible solutions.

Srinivas emphasized that BLOs play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of electoral rolls and that their efforts are central to the campaign's success. He directed officials to ensure that every eligible voter is reached and that no citizen is excluded due to lack of awareness or information.

Highlighting the importance of urban outreach, he called for increased efforts in high-rise residential societies and densely populated urban areas to maximize voter participation in the revision exercise.
