DK Shivakumar Set to Become Karnataka Chief Minister After Being Elected Congress Legislature Party Leader

Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar has been unanimously elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Karnataka, paving the way for him to become the state’s next Chief Minister.

The decision was made during a Congress Legislature Party meeting held in Bengaluru, attended by key party leaders and MLAs. After weeks of political discussions and speculation, the Congress leadership finally approved Shivakumar’s name for the top post.

Following his election as CLP leader, Shivakumar’s path to becoming Chief Minister is now considered almost certain. His appointment is being seen as the beginning of a new political chapter in Karnataka, as he has long been regarded as one of the strongest contenders for the position.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said the party high command had recommended DK Shivakumar’s name for the leadership role. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah formally proposed Shivakumar’s name during the meeting, which was supported by senior Congress leader Dr G. Parameshwara. The proposal received unanimous approval from all MLAs present, with no opposition reported.

Venugopal stated that the Congress Legislature Party had unanimously elected Shivakumar as its leader based on the recommendation of the party leadership and the consensus among legislators.

DK Shivakumar has played a significant role in strengthening the Congress organisation in Karnataka over the years. With his selection as CLP leader, the likelihood of him taking charge as Chief Minister has grown stronger. The Congress party said the new government would soon begin work on governance, development, and public welfare in the state.
