Shubhendu Government Set for Cabinet Expansion Tomorrow, New Faces Likely to Be Inducted

Kolkata, May 31: The West Bengal government led by Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari is expected to undertake a major cabinet expansion on Monday, with several new faces likely to be inducted into the state ministry.

According to official sources, the cabinet reshuffle and expansion exercise could culminate in the formation of the full council of ministers, aimed at accelerating governance and strengthening administrative functioning across the state.

Sources said the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place at around 11 a.m. on Monday at Raj Bhavan, where newly appointed ministers will take the oath of office and secrecy. Preparations for the event are reportedly underway at full pace.

Political activity has intensified following reports of the cabinet expansion, with speculation rife over the inclusion of younger and fresh faces in the ministry. Several names are said to be under consideration as the BJP government seeks to build a stronger administrative team.

The primary objective behind the cabinet expansion, sources said, is to enhance governance by inducting new ministers and streamlining the administration for more effective delivery of public services.

The development comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a decisive victory in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, forming the government in the state for the first time with more than a two-thirds majority. The party reportedly won over 200 seats, defeating Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Meanwhile, political tensions continue in parts of Bengal following the election results. Recent incidents, including the alleged attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee during a visit to Sonarpur, have further intensified the political atmosphere in the state. While the TMC has alleged foul play, BJP leaders have described the incident as a result of internal factionalism within the opposition camp.
