Tej Pratap Yadav Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody Over NEET Paper Leak Protest in Bihar
RJD leader was arrested after participating in Bihar Bandh in support of students protesting the NEET paper leak controversy.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody after his arrest during the Bihar Bandh called to protest the alleged NEET paper leak and police action against student demonstrators.
According to reports, Tej Pratap joined students protesting in Patna's Ramgulam Chowk, where he expressed support for their demands. As the protesters marched towards Dak Bungalow Chowk, police stopped the procession near Exhibition Road and initially detained him.
Later in the evening, police arrested Tej Pratap from a shopping mall in Patna and produced him before a magistrate, who ordered his judicial custody for 14 days.
During his detention, Tej Pratap was seen standing at the door of the police vehicle, declaring his support for the students. He said he would continue to stand "shoulder to shoulder" with them and was prepared to make any sacrifice for their rights if necessary.
Before joining the protest, the RJD leader had backed the students' demands over the NEET controversy and reiterated his call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The Bihar Bandh also witnessed demonstrations by several Left-affiliated student organisations across the state. In some districts, clashes broke out between protesters and police. Stone-pelting was reported near Dak Bungalow Chowk in Patna, prompting authorities to tighten security and deploy additional police personnel.
Officials said the impact of the bandh varied across Bihar. While Patna witnessed major demonstrations and isolated incidents of violence, districts including Nalanda, Nawada, Jehanabad, and Rohtas reported comparatively limited disruption.
