TMC Faces Another Major Setback as Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik Resigns

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered another major political setback on Thursday after Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik resigned from the Upper House of Parliament. His resignation comes shortly after senior party leaders Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Sushmita Dev also stepped down, intensifying the crisis within the party.

With Baraik’s exit, the number of TMC MPs resigning from the Rajya Sabha in recent days has risen to three. The consecutive resignations are expected to directly impact the party’s strength in Parliament, with TMC’s representation in the Upper House likely to fall to 10 members.

The troubles for the Mamata Banerjee-led party may not end here. Reports suggest that at least three more Rajya Sabha MPs from TMC could resign within the next week, potentially deepening the ongoing internal turmoil and raising concerns over the party’s unity.

In his resignation letter addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan, Baraik stated that he was stepping down from the membership of the House with immediate effect. “I hereby resign from the membership of the Rajya Sabha. Kindly accept the same with immediate effect,” the letter stated.

He also expressed gratitude to the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and Rajya Sabha Secretariat for their support and cooperation during his tenure as a Member of Parliament.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble authorities and all officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat for their assistance and cooperation during my tenure,” Baraik wrote.

The latest development comes amid growing internal unrest within the Trinamool Congress. A series of resignations and claims by dissident leaders have fueled uncertainty over the party’s future cohesion and possible political realignments.
