TMC Leaders Face Legal Action and Public Anger Amid Political Shift in Bengal

Following the political change in West Bengal, legal action against leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over allegations of corruption has intensified. While several leaders have been arrested, others are facing growing public outrage over accusations of misconduct and misuse of power.

In a shocking incident in Amaradaha village of Howrah district, public anger erupted against local TMC leader Sannyasi Manna. Villagers accused him of collecting money from people in the name of securing benefits under various government welfare schemes.

Enraged over the alleged corruption, locals reportedly shaved his head, made him wear a garland of shoes, and paraded him through the village. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot, rescued him from the crowd, and initiated an investigation into the matter.

In another development from the Amta area of Howrah district, police arrested TMC worker Brahmananda Chakraborty in connection with a case related to post-poll violence following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

According to police sources, Chakraborty had allegedly been hiding beneath a pile of sarees inside a house to evade arrest. He was apprehended during a raid conducted by law enforcement officials. BJP leaders claimed that complaints related to post-election violence against him had remained pending for a long time. Earlier, another TMC leader was reportedly arrested from under a bed in Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar.

Meanwhile, in Shalboni of Paschim Medinipur district, former TMC MLA Sukumar Hazra was arrested in a case involving allegations of assault and misconduct with a woman.

In Kolkata, police arrested Mohammad Jasimuddin, councillor of Ward 39 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, in connection with allegations related to the sexual exploitation of a minor and a real estate-linked case. Reports suggest that angry locals threw eggs at him.

Separately, influential Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor Bappaditya Dasgupta was arrested over alleged extortion charges.

In Nadia district’s Nabadwip, Municipal Chairman Bimal Krishna Saha faced massive public protests over local civic issues and dissatisfaction among residents.

Former TMC candidate from the Bally Assembly constituency in Howrah, Kailash Mishra, was arrested from Madhubani in Bihar. Several FIRs had reportedly been filed against him, including allegations of extortion, assault, intimidation, and coercion.

Similarly, eggs were thrown at the vehicle of Kamarhati TMC MLA Madan Mitra by protesting residents. Demonstrators alleged that public representatives had failed to adequately address corruption and various civic problems in the area.

The incidents reflect increasing scrutiny, legal action, and public dissatisfaction surrounding several TMC leaders amid the changing political climate in West Bengal.
