Uttar Pradesh to Get Lotus-Shaped New Assembly Complex in Lucknow
The 200-acre state-of-the-art legislative campus in Gomti Nagar will feature modern administrative infrastructure and seating for future legislative expansion.
Lucknow is set to gain a striking new architectural landmark as the Uttar Pradesh government plans to construct a lotus-shaped Legislative Assembly complex in Sahara City, Gomti Nagar. Spread across nearly 200 acres, the ambitious project is expected to redefine the state's administrative infrastructure while reflecting India's cultural heritage.
According to officials, the lotus-inspired design was selected from three proposed models submitted by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). The final structure, when viewed from above, will resemble the petals of a lotus flower, symbolising Indian culture and the identity of Uttar Pradesh.
The new legislative complex is expected to house a 700-seat Legislative Assembly, a 200-seat Legislative Council, and a 1,000-seat joint session hall designed to accommodate future legislative needs and major government events.
In addition to the legislative chambers, the campus will include a modern secretariat, the Chief Minister's residence, legislators' hostels, and dedicated VVIP administrative blocks. The LDA is currently preparing a detailed project report (DPR) through consultants and architects, with construction likely to begin next year.
The project also proposes extensive infrastructure, including parking facilities for more than 5,000 vehicles, wide internal roads, landscaped green spaces, and advanced digital and security systems. Dedicated discussion areas for representatives from each district have also been planned.
Once completed, the new Assembly complex is expected to become one of Uttar Pradesh's most significant government landmarks, combining modern governance infrastructure with symbolic architectural design.
