15-Year-Old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Becomes Youngest-Ever India International, Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar's Record

Teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name into the record books on Saturday by becoming the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket. At just 15 years and 99 days old, Sooryavanshi made his debut in the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, surpassing the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar.

The young opener was handed his maiden India cap by Tilak Varma before the match. He replaced Sanju Samson in the playing XI, with captain Shreyas Iyer confirming the change at the toss after India elected to bat first.

Tendulkar had made his international debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days in a Test match against Pakistan in 1989. Sooryavanshi has also become the youngest Indian international across both men's and women's cricket, breaking the previous overall record held by Shafali Verma, who debuted at 15 years and 239 days in 2019.

Speaking about the teenager's selection, Iyer praised Sooryavanshi's fearless approach and maturity beyond his years.

"He has earned this opportunity with his performances over the last few months. He plays with confidence, remains calm under pressure, and has shown remarkable character both in the nets and on the field," the India captain said.

Sooryavanshi's rapid rise has been fueled by outstanding performances in domestic cricket and the IPL, where his aggressive batting and fearless stroke play caught the attention of selectors. His inclusion in the national side follows growing calls for him to strengthen India's top order after the team's recent batting struggles.
