Afghanistan Set to Host India for T20I Series in Delhi This September
Afghanistan likely to play three T20Is against India at Arun Jaitley Stadium as part of a historic hosting arrangement.
Afghanistan are set to host India in a three-match T20 International series in September, marking the first time in cricket history that Afghanistan will host India in an international bilateral series. However, due to ongoing geopolitical challenges in Afghanistan, the matches are expected to take place in India’s capital, Delhi.
According to reports, the series is likely to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 13, 16, and 19, although an official announcement is still awaited.
The development comes after the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) reportedly approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a return tour. Sources suggest that the two boards have reached an understanding, with the BCCI continuing its support for Afghanistan cricket.
A BCCI source indicated that coordination has also taken place with the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) to make Delhi Afghanistan’s temporary home venue for the series. The scheduling of the Delhi Premier League T20 is also expected to be adjusted accordingly.
Afghanistan have hosted international fixtures in India and the UAE over the years due to security and political concerns at home. The team previously staged matches in Greater Noida, Dehradun, and Sharjah.
The upcoming T20I series could also help India prepare for the cricket competition at the Asian Games, scheduled to begin later in September, with selectors expected to finalize the squad accordingly.
