England Crush India 4-0, Buttler's Century Powers Hosts to T20 Series Sweep
Jos Buttler smashed an unbeaten 131 as England defeated India by 56 runs in the fifth T20I, completed a 4-0 clean sweep, and climbed to No. 1 in the ICC Men's T20I rankings.
England completed a dominant 4-0 T20I series victory over India after defeating the visitors by 56 runs in the fifth and final match at Southampton on Saturday.
Former England captain Jos Buttler was the star of the match, scoring a sensational 131 runs off just 58 balls. It was his first international century in three years and only his second T20I hundred. Buttler and captain Harry Brook, who remained unbeaten on 95, added a record 233-run partnership for England, helping the hosts post a massive 257/3.
Chasing 258, India struggled to keep up with the required run rate despite fighting knocks from Ishan Kishan (56) and Tilak Varma (53). The visitors eventually finished on 201/8, handing England a comfortable victory.
All-rounder Sam Curran starred with the ball, picking up 3 wickets for 36 runs, while Buttler also impressed behind the stumps with three catches.
After the match, Buttler said he was delighted to return to form and contribute to England's successful campaign. India captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that his team needs to improve its fielding and adapt better to playing conditions.
With the series win, England moved to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings. The two teams will now shift their focus to a three-match ODI series, which begins in Birmingham on Tuesday.
