Gautam Gambhir Backs Sai Sudharsan, Confirms Four-Spinners Plan for Sri Lanka Tour

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has backed Sai Sudharsan for the No. 3 spot in the Test side, stating that the young batter has not received a fair run despite impressive performances and deserves an extended opportunity to cement his place in the team.

Ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur, Gambhir highlighted Sudharsan’s consistency and stressed the importance of backing talented players beyond a handful of matches.

He also revealed that India is evaluating spin options, with four spinners likely to be included in the squad for the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka. The team management is assessing left-arm spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey as part of its long-term planning.

On Rishabh Pant’s removal as Test vice-captain, Gambhir reiterated his support for the wicketkeeper-batter, while emphasizing the importance of adapting to match situations and the demands of international cricket.
