"We Haven't Read the Game Well": Gambhir Explains India's T20 Collapse, Clears Air on Sanju Samson

India's crushing T20I defeat against England has sparked tough questions, but head coach Gautam Gambhir believes the answers lie in better decision-making rather than panic. Following India's fourth consecutive T20I loss and a humiliating 76 all out at Trent Bridge, Gambhir admitted the team has struggled to "read the game" since the Ireland tour.

According to the India coach, the batting collapse wasn't simply about England's pace attack. He said the players failed to adapt to changing conditions, ground dimensions and match situations, stressing that T20 cricket demands smart decision-making as much as fearless stroke play.

Gambhir also reminded critics that the current Indian side is still finding its feet after a major overhaul. With World Cup-winning stars like Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah unavailable, and youngsters including 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prince Yadav being introduced, he believes patience is essential during the rebuilding phase.

Captain Shreyas Iyer, however, didn't hold back. Calling the performance "atrocious", he admitted India's Powerplay collapse completely shifted the momentum in England's favour and said the team must return to the drawing board before the remaining matches.

Gambhir also put an end to speculation surrounding Sanju Samson's omission. He described Samson's World Cup contribution as "phenomenal" and insisted the wicketkeeper-batter remains part of India's long-term plans. The coach added that no player is permanently out of the playing XI and selections will continue to be based on form, conditions and the team's best combination.

With two T20Is still left in the series, India now face the challenge of avoiding a series whitewash while proving that this young squad can bounce back.
