Rahul Dravid’s Younger Son Anvay Dravid Selected for India U-19 Team, Set for Sri Lanka Tour

Indian cricket is set to witness the rise of another member of the Dravid family as Anvay Dravid, the younger son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, has been selected for India’s Under-19 ODI squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has earned his maiden national call-up following a string of strong performances in age-group domestic cricket. The selection marks a major milestone in Anvay’s budding career and signals the beginning of preparations for the Under-19 World Cup 2028.

The Junior Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), headed by Sharath Sridharan, announced both the ODI and multi-day squads for the Sri Lanka tour on Thursday. The series is scheduled to begin on July 4, 2026, in Hambantota and will include three One-Day matches and two multi-day fixtures.

Anvay has been named in the 15-member ODI squad as one of the two wicketkeepers, alongside Rajat Baghel. Madhya Pradesh’s Yashvardhan Singh Chauhan will lead the side, while Lakshya Raichandani has been appointed vice-captain.

Interestingly, while Anvay’s elder brother Samit Dravid has previously represented Karnataka at the Under-19 level, Anvay becomes the first member of the Dravid family to earn a place in India’s Under-19 national side.

Anvay recently grabbed attention with his performances in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where he captained Karnataka’s Under-19 side to the quarterfinals. He scored 220 runs in six innings, with his standout performance coming against Himachal Pradesh, where he smashed an unbeaten 82 under pressure to guide his team to victory.

He had also impressed selectors earlier by scoring a century in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, strengthening his case for national selection.

National selectors reportedly view the Sri Lanka tour as an important stepping stone toward building the squad for the 2028 Under-19 World Cup. Since Anvay is still only 17, he will remain eligible for the tournament, making this exposure in Sri Lankan conditions crucial for his development.

India’s Under-19 team is expected to depart for Sri Lanka later this month, with the ODI series to be followed by multi-day matches featuring a separate squad.
