Riots Reported in France After World Cup Semi-Final Defeat to Spain

France's FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign ended in disappointment after a 2-0 defeat to Spain in the semi-final at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Following the final whistle, videos circulating on social media showed unrest and clashes in parts of Paris, with authorities monitoring the situation.

Spain secured their place in the World Cup final with a composed display, scoring through Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro. Despite boasting attacking stars like Kylian Mbappé, France struggled to create clear-cut opportunities and failed to find a way back into the contest.

After the match, France captain Kylian Mbappé admitted his team allowed Spain to dominate the midfield, making it difficult to regain control of the game.

"We gave their midfield too much time on the ball. They have the quality to make you pay, and the penalty helped them settle into the match," Mbappé said.
