E20 Fuel Won't Damage Your Vehicle, Says Government; Hero MotoCorp Backs Ethanol Blending

The Government of India has reassured consumers that E20 ethanol-blended fuel is safe for vehicles, stressing that the decision to introduce the fuel was based on extensive scientific research, technical studies, and industry consultations—not a sudden policy change.

Speaking at a press conference on ethanol blending, government officials said the E20 rollout was implemented only after thorough testing to ensure compatibility with modern vehicles. The Centre urged motorists not to worry about potential damage, adding that the initiative supports India's efforts to reduce crude oil imports, cut emissions, and strengthen energy security.

Supporting the government's position, Ashutosh Varma of Hero MotoCorp said the company has extensive real-world experience with E20-compatible vehicles.

“We service millions of motorcycles, and till date we have not encountered any issues related to E20 fuel,” Varma said.

His statement reinforces the government's claim that E20 fuel has proven reliable in everyday use, with no widespread vehicle-related concerns reported by one of the country's largest two-wheeler manufacturers.

As India continues to expand ethanol blending, the government maintains that E20 is a key step toward cleaner mobility, lower fuel dependence, and a more sustainable transport sector.
