Suspected Ebola Case Puts India on Alert, BSF Jawan Isolated at Delhi's RML Hospital

New Delhi: Health authorities have stepped up surveillance after a 52-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) constable was admitted to the isolation ward of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi with a suspected Ebola infection.

The jawan had recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he was deployed as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission. He developed a fever while undergoing mandatory quarantine, prompting doctors to isolate him as a precaution. His blood samples have been sent for laboratory testing, and the results are awaited.

The Central Government has informed Parliament that 10,974 international travellers arriving from Ebola-affected countries have been screened since May 23, after the World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

Officials have clarified that no confirmed Ebola case has been reported in India so far. Enhanced screening, surveillance, and infection-control measures have been implemented at airports and healthcare facilities across the country to prevent any potential spread of the virus.
