IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert Across India, Several States on High Alert
Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Northeast India are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall as active monsoon conditions persist.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across large parts of the country, with heavy to very heavy showers expected over north, central, east, northeast, west and south India. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several regions as the active monsoon continues.
Delhi-NCR is expected to receive heavy rainfall, with widespread showers forecast over Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh from July 30 to August 4. Similar weather conditions are expected across Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, with isolated areas likely to witness very heavy rainfall.
In central India, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are under heavy rain alert, while Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal are expected to experience widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms.
The IMD has also issued heavy rainfall warnings for Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, raising concerns over localized flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
In western India, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to witness intense rainfall, with isolated parts of Gujarat expected to receive extremely heavy showers. Southern states, including Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, are also expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next few days.
The weather department has advised people living in affected areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and follow updates issued by local authorities as monsoon activity is expected to remain intense in several parts of the country.
