Centre Reshuffles Education Ministry Amid Student Protests Over NEET Row
Naresh Pal Gangwar appointed as Higher Education Secretary, replacing Vineet Joshi, as nationwide protests over alleged exam irregularities continue.
New Delhi: The Central Government has carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle in the Ministry of Education amid ongoing student protests over alleged examination irregularities and paper leak allegations.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the transfer of senior IAS officer Vineet Joshi from the post of Secretary, Department of Higher Education. He has been appointed Secretary in the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Naresh Pal Gangwar, currently serving as Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, will take over as the new Higher Education Secretary.
The administrative changes come at a time when protests led by the CJP continue at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, with students demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and greater accountability in the examination system. However, the government has not officially linked the reshuffle to the ongoing protests.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the issue on Thursday, reiterated that the welfare of the country's youth remains the government's top priority. He also announced the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure swift action against those involved in paper leak cases.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed that the transfer of the Higher Education Secretary was due to alleged negligence in handling the paper leak issue, although no official confirmation has been issued by the government.
The ACC also approved several other senior-level bureaucratic appointments, including the appointment of T.K. Anil Kumar as Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, along with multiple transfers across various ministries.
