'If PoJK Is Ours, Why the Silence?' Farooq Abdullah Questions Centre Over Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has questioned the Central government over its silence on the situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), asking why there has been no official discussion if India continues to maintain that the region is an integral part of the country.

Speaking amid reports of unrest in PoJK, Abdullah urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the External Affairs Minister to take up the issue more actively. He said that if PoJK is considered Indian territory, the government should also raise concerns about the conditions faced by the people living there.

The veteran leader also appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Commission to visit PoJK and assess the ground reality. According to Abdullah, an independent visit would help the international community understand the challenges faced by residents and encourage efforts to address their concerns.

Expressing concern over the recent tensions in the region, Abdullah said it was disappointing that there had been no visible official response from New Delhi despite India's consistent claim over PoJK.

Apart from the PoJK issue, Abdullah highlighted the growing problem of drug addiction among the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. While praising social organisations working to combat substance abuse, he stressed that the real focus should be on dismantling the networks of major drug traffickers rather than targeting only addicts.

He also defended the expansion of hotels in Jammu and Kashmir, saying improved accommodation has strengthened tourism and created employment opportunities for local youth without relying solely on government jobs. Recalling earlier times, he noted that tourists often struggled to find places to stay in Srinagar.

Responding to questions on issues ranging from the Bihar paper leak protests and demonstrations at Delhi's Jantar Mantar to remarks by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Abdullah said people would continue to raise their voices for their rights and governments must fulfil their promises. However, his central message remained focused on PoJK, urging the Centre to clarify its position and engage more actively on developments in the region.
