Glasgow: India's Yashvir Singh produced the performance of his career to win a historic bronze medal in the men's javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games 2026, thanks to a remarkable final attempt fueled by confidence and determination.

With the bronze medal position hanging in the balance, the 24-year-old reminded himself that he had already thrown beyond the required distance before. That positive self-talk proved decisive as he unleashed a personal-best throw of 85.41m on his sixth and final attempt at Scotstoun Stadium. The effort not only secured his first-ever international medal but also completed a memorable one-two finish for India, with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra claiming the silver medal.

Reflecting on his achievement, Yashvir said he stayed calm despite a slow start to the competition. After seeing that the bronze medal mark was just over 82 metres, he reminded himself that he had already crossed that distance earlier in his career. Determined to give everything on his final throw, he delivered the best effort of his life.

"This is my first international medal, and I am overjoyed. I believed I could throw beyond 82 metres, and that confidence helped me produce my best throw when it mattered the most," Yashvir said after the event.

Neeraj Chopra, competing in only his second event of the season, registered a season-best throw of 85.83m to win the silver medal despite challenging cold and windy conditions. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed the gold medal with an impressive throw of 89.75m.

Chopra praised his young compatriot, saying it was special to share the podium with another Indian athlete. He congratulated Yashvir for producing a personal best under pressure and expressed satisfaction with his own season-best performance as he continues his comeback ahead of upcoming international competitions.
