Delhi to Develop Scientific Road Management System to Tackle Traffic and Pollution

New Delhi: In a major push to modernise urban infrastructure, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi government is developing a Road Asset Management System (RAMS) aimed at improving road maintenance, easing traffic congestion, and reducing pollution across the national capital.

The initiative is being launched in partnership with the Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) and the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi will move beyond traditional road repair methods and adopt a scientific, data-driven approach to infrastructure management. With increasing urbanisation and rising traffic pressure, the RAMS project will help authorities monitor road conditions and plan repairs more efficiently.

The system will digitally map roads, conduct regular assessments, and prioritise maintenance work based on urgency and road conditions. Officials believe the move will improve traffic flow and reduce road-related issues in the city.

A major goal of the initiative is to create dust-free and environmentally sustainable roads. The government plans to develop green belts, promote local plant species, strengthen rainwater harvesting systems, and improve stormwater drainage to combat waterlogging during monsoon seasons.

Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh called the agreement a significant step toward building a modern and future-ready road infrastructure for the capital.
