Delhi Receives Fresh Spell of Rain, IMD Issues Orange Alert for Next Few Hours
Moderate rainfall and gusty winds are expected across several parts of the capital as the weather department urges residents to remain cautious.
A fresh spell of monsoon rain swept across parts of Delhi on Tuesday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange Alert for the national capital for the next few hours.
According to the IMD, several areas recorded significant rainfall by 8:30 am. Safdarjung, Delhi's base weather station, received 32.4 mm of rainfall, while the Ridge recorded 37.6 mm and Lodhi Road registered 36.7 mm. Ayanagar and Palam recorded 4 mm and 0.8 mm of rainfall, respectively.
The weather department has forecast cloudy skies accompanied by moderate rain and gusty winds across many parts of the city. Residents have been advised to remain alert, as the changing weather could lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and reduced visibility in some areas.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning, which was 1.8 degrees below the seasonal average, offering relief from the recent humid conditions.
Meanwhile, the city's air quality also showed improvement. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 77 at 9 am, placing it in the 'Satisfactory' category.
The fresh rainfall is expected to provide further respite from the heat while strengthening monsoon activity across the national capital.
