'I Forgive the Children Who Abused Me': PM Modi's Message After Jantar Mantar Protest

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday night addressed the nation through a live Instagram session, delivering a message of forgiveness and compassion in the wake of the controversy surrounding abusive slogans raised against him during the recent protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

Speaking directly to Gen Z, the Prime Minister said he wanted to forgive the young protesters despite the offensive remarks directed at him and his late mother.

"Friends, today I just want to talk to you. The entire country and the world saw what happened at Jantar Mantar. Some misguided children used abusive language that has no place in a civilised society. They abused me and even my late mother. But childhood is a time when mistakes happen, and it is also the time when people get the opportunity to learn from them," PM Modi said.

Describing the incident as a "cultural shock," he expressed concern over the language used by young girls during the protest. However, he appealed to the public not to respond with anger or vengeance.

"This is the time to embrace these children and show them the right path. They are misguided, and it is our responsibility to guide them. Taking them to court or punishing them will not change the situation. I forgive them, and I hope society accepts my appeal," he said.

Drawing an analogy, the Prime Minister added that when the tongue accidentally gets bitten by the teeth, people do not break their teeth because both belong to the same body. Similarly, he said, these children are part of society and deserve guidance rather than rejection.

PM Modi also urged the youth to learn from their mistakes and work towards building a stronger India. "Come, let us move forward together for the nation. Learn something new, learn from your mistakes, and pursue your dreams. The country is progressing, and your future is bright. I live for your future and your success," he said.

The Prime Minister's remarks are widely seen as a response to the events of July 23, when students and young protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to protest the alleged NEET paper leak. During the demonstration, a video of 25-year-old Ruchika Singh allegedly making abusive remarks against PM Modi went viral on social media, triggering widespread political debate and calls for legal action.

Following complaints, a Zero FIR was reportedly registered against Ruchika Singh in Noida. The complainant alleged that her remarks undermined the dignity of the Prime Minister's constitutional office and had the potential to disturb public order.

PM Modi's appeal for forgiveness instead of punishment has sparked fresh debate over political discourse, freedom of expression, and the role of society in guiding young people.
