PM Modi Extends World Environment Day Wishes, Highlights India’s Green Achievements

New Delhi, June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended his wishes to citizens on the occasion of World Environment Day, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable development. He applauded individuals and organizations dedicated to protecting nature and reaffirmed India’s commitment to building a cleaner and greener future.

In a series of posts shared on X, Prime Minister Modi stated that World Environment Day serves as an opportunity to renew the collective commitment toward safeguarding the environment while promoting sustainable growth. He highlighted the Indian government’s efforts over the past decade, noting significant progress in expanding green cover and increasing the population of several wildlife species.

The Prime Minister credited the people of India for contributing to environmental improvement through collective efforts, effective policies, scientific innovation, and sustainable practices.

“We in India are very proud of our biological diversity. Our diverse ecosystems support countless species and livelihoods,” Modi said, underlining the country’s rich ecological heritage.

Highlighting India’s conservation successes, the Prime Minister pointed to ongoing efforts to protect endangered species such as the Great Indian Bustard, snow leopards, sloth bears, and cheetahs. He noted that sustained conservation efforts have played an important role in restoring wildlife and preserving ecosystems.

Modi also praised the impact of the government’s environmental initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, stating that it has significantly contributed to increasing forest cover, adding nearly 1.19 lakh hectares of forest annually.

Reiterating India’s global environmental vision, the Prime Minister said the country would continue working toward a sustainable future under the guiding principle of “One Earth, One Family and One Future” through the spirit of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

Emphasizing India’s cultural connection with nature, Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam reflecting the country’s traditional wisdom on environmental stewardship.

“Nature conservation is not only a responsibility but also an inseparable part of our culture and values,” he said while sharing a verse wishing for pure air, nourishing rivers, and healing herbs for the well-being of all living beings.

The Prime Minister’s message comes as India continues to strengthen its focus on climate action, biodiversity protection, and sustainable environmental practices on the global stage.
