Sachin Tendulkar Urges Merit-Based Education Amid CJP-Led NEET Protests
Cricket legend calls for honesty, hard work, and fairness to safeguard students' future.
Former India cricket captain Sachin Tendulkar has spoken out amid the nationwide protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, urging society to build a culture where honesty and merit are valued above shortcuts.
In a message shared on social media, Tendulkar recalled a lesson from his father, a professor, who taught him that while failure is acceptable, cheating is not.
"Failure is okay, cheating is not. Never take shortcuts," Tendulkar wrote, stressing that the values instilled in young people shape the future of society.
His remarks come as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continues to lead student-led protests demanding accountability for the alleged examination irregularities and reforms in India's education system. The movement has gained widespread attention, drawing support from students, activists, and several public figures.
Tendulkar acknowledged the disappointment felt by students whose hard work may have been undermined by alleged unfair practices. He said it is the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, schools, administrators, and society to ensure that such situations do not recur.
Emphasising the importance of integrity in education, the cricket icon said India must encourage hard work, reward honesty, and ensure that merit remains the foundation of opportunity. He added that the country's youth are full of dreams and energy, and protecting their aspirations should be a national priority.
Tendulkar's statement makes him one of the prominent sporting personalities to publicly comment on the controversy, reinforcing calls for a fair, transparent, and merit-based education system.
