BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla Resigns from Party Post
Poonawalla cites personal reasons for stepping down; says he will remain a lifelong admirer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi
New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has resigned from his party position, submitting his resignation to the party leadership. While an official announcement is yet to be made, sources said he has cited personal reasons for stepping down.
The development comes a day after Poonawalla shared an old interview on social media in which he spoke about his desire to move away from active politics. The post has fueled speculation that his decision had been under consideration for some time.
Poonawalla also updated his social media bio, stating that he would remain a "true admirer" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi throughout his life, signaling his continued support for the Prime Minister despite stepping down from his organisational role.
Shehzad Poonawalla began his political career with the Congress Party. In 2017, he made headlines after publicly questioning Rahul Gandhi's leadership and internal democratic processes within the Congress. He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he emerged as one of the party's prominent national spokespersons, frequently representing the BJP in television debates and public discussions.
The BJP has not yet issued an official statement on Poonawalla's resignation, and it remains unclear whether he will continue to be associated with the party in any other capacity.
