Australia Sets Commonwealth Games Record in Mixed 4×100m Medley Relay; South Africa and Scotland Join Podium

Australia delivered a dominant performance in the Mixed 4×100m Medley Relay at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, winning the gold medal in a new Games record time of 3:40.46. The quartet of Iona Anderson, Sam Williamson, Matt Temple, and Meg Harris produced a flawless team effort to eclipse the previous Games record of 3:41.30 set by Australia in 2022.

South Africa put up a fierce challenge throughout the race and finished with the silver medal in 3:42.61, setting a new African record. Scotland completed the podium in 3:43.70, with Olympic champion Duncan Scott producing a stunning freestyle anchor leg to overtake rivals and secure bronze.

South Africa made a blistering start through Pieter Coetze, who clocked an outstanding 51.98 on the backstroke leg, one of the fastest relay splits in history. However, Australia fought back during the breaststroke as Sam Williamson delivered the fastest split of the field with 58.81, helping his team close the gap.

Scotland remained in medal contention thanks to Angharad Evans, whose impressive 1:04.52 breaststroke split kept her team ahead of Australia at the halfway stage despite being one of the few teams to use a female breaststroker.

On the butterfly leg, Matt Temple produced the fastest split of the race in 50.05, overtaking Canada's Josh Liendo and putting Australia firmly in control. Temple's effort ranked among the fastest relay butterfly performances ever recorded.

The final freestyle leg saw Meg Harris anchor Australia home in 52.16, comfortably sealing gold. South Africa's Aimee Canny held off the chasing pack to secure silver, while Duncan Scott unleashed a superb 48.03 split to propel Scotland into the bronze medal position.

England, considered one of the favourites for silver, struggled to keep pace throughout the race and eventually finished fifth.
