India's Semiconductor Dream Takes Flight: Chips Made in India to Be Exported to Japan, US and Europe

India has taken a significant step toward becoming a global technology leader, with Made-in-India semiconductor chips now set to be exported to major economies, including Japan, the United States, and Europe.

Announcing the milestone, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said semiconductor chips manufactured at the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, will be used in automobiles, scooters, and a wide range of IT applications before reaching international markets.

The announcement follows the inauguration of the state-of-the-art facility by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described it as another major step toward making India a global hub for semiconductors and future technologies.

Vaishnaw said the achievement reflects India's growing capabilities in advanced manufacturing and high-tech innovation. "What was once considered impossible has now become a reality. India's dream of building a semiconductor industry has taken shape, and the world is ready to trust chips made in India," the minister said.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that global technology leadership is built through strong industrial ecosystems rather than isolated factories. Citing examples such as Silicon Valley in the United States, Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan, and Japan's leading technology clusters, he said Sanand is rapidly emerging as India's own semiconductor hub.

The Prime Minister noted that several companies, including Micron, Kaynes, and CG Semi, have already begun production in Sanand, creating a vibrant semiconductor ecosystem. Beyond chip packaging, the cluster is expected to attract specialised component manufacturers, chemical industries, equipment servicing companies, design centres, and innovative startups.

With semiconductor demand rising worldwide, India's entry into the global supply chain marks a defining moment for the country's manufacturing ambitions. The export of Indian-made chips to some of the world's most advanced economies reflects growing confidence in India's technological capabilities and strengthens its position as a trusted global innovation partner.

As the nation accelerates its semiconductor mission, Sanand is emerging as a symbol of India's technological transformation—showcasing the country's ambition to move from being a consumer of advanced technology to a leading producer for the world.
