PM Modi Mentions Shah Rukh Khan's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in Indonesia, Karan Johar Reacts with Pride

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the enduring popularity of Bollywood in Indonesia during his address to the Indian diaspora in Jakarta, citing Shah Rukh Khan's iconic 1998 blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai as an example of the strong cultural connection between India and Indonesia.

Speaking during his visit to Jakarta, PM Modi said the film's songs continue to be loved by people in Indonesia, reflecting the long-standing cultural ties shared by the two countries. He also thanked Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for the warm welcome extended to him.

Adding a touch of humour to his speech, the Prime Minister said, "The song Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is very popular here. I told President Prabowo that when two great nations like India and Indonesia move forward together, it is no longer just 'Kuch Kuch'—it becomes 'Bahut Kuch Hota Hai' (a lot happens)."

The reference delighted filmmaker Karan Johar, whose production house, Dharma Productions, shared a video clip of PM Modi's speech on its official Instagram account. Expressing gratitude, the studio wrote that cinema and music have a unique ability to transcend borders and bring people together, adding that it was an honour to have Kuch Kuch Hota Hai mentioned by the Prime Minister on a global platform.

Released in 1998, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai marked Karan Johar's directorial debut and became one of Bollywood's biggest blockbusters. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji, the film achieved massive success not only in India but also in international markets, including the UK, the US and Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, helping strengthen Bollywood's global appeal.
