Speaking after arriving in Ankara, Trump said his relationship with Meloni had become "a little strained" because Italy refused to assist the United States during the Iran crisis. He suggested that Rome's position was a strategic mistake despite maintaining his personal respect for the Italian leader.

"I like her. I think she's a really good person," Trump said. "But I think she made a mistake by refusing to help us on Iran."

The remarks highlight differences between the United States and one of its key European allies over the handling of the Iran conflict. While Washington sought broader international backing for its actions, several European governments adopted a more cautious approach, calling for restraint and diplomatic engagement.
