Lightning Strike Kills Shepherd in Uttarakhand’s Dharchula Amid Heavy Rain

A 48-year-old shepherd lost his life after being struck by lightning in Uttarakhand’s Dharchula region during heavy rainfall, officials said on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Ram Singh, was grazing his flock in Suva village when sudden severe weather hit the area on Tuesday afternoon. According to local authorities, the lightning strike killed him instantly.

Officials said rescue efforts were delayed due to continuous bad weather, and Singh’s body could only be recovered the following day.

The incident marks the second lightning-related death in Dharchula within three days. Earlier on Sunday, another shepherd, 35-year-old Tej Singh from Khet village, died after being struck by lightning while tending livestock in the Rapkiya pasture area.

Authorities have urged residents, especially those in remote and high-altitude regions, to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions as thunderstorms continue to affect parts of Uttarakhand.
